Water pollution with heavy metal ions such as mercury and cadmium has lethal effects on the environment and living organisms. This indicates that research on heavy metal sensors that are fast, potable and cost effective are needed. Electrochemical method is alternative for conventional techniques that are high cost in aspect of maintenance, expensive instruments and specialized personnel to run the samples. These techniques also do not allow onsite analysis due to non-portability of the equipment. In this research, Silicon Nanowires (SiNW’s) a 1-dimensional nanowires was used as modifier for disposable screen printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) for detection of metal ions. Application of ionophores or carriers was applied to increase the sensitivity detection of metal ions.
